Welcome to Fijn Gestookt

Artisanal distillery

Our story

Distilling is an age-old craft. In the past, people didn’t distill to create luxury, but to preserve what had value. Fruit that was too ripe to eat, yet at the height of its flavor, was fermented and distilled. In this way, its essence was preserved for the winter, for later. That idea still lies at the heart of what we do.

The story

Distilleerderij Fijn Gestookt was founded by Audny van Helden, Hans-Herbert Leidel, and Steven Vedder. Audny became fascinated during wine trips to France by the way a by-product such as grape skins can be transformed into something new: her beloved grappa. Hans grew up in southern Germany among fruit trees and in the midst of a vibrant schnapps culture. It was Steven who, in Bunschoten-Spakenburg, a town known for its craftsmanship, had the perfect location available for a distillery. Audny, Hans, and Steven were brought together by their love of beautiful, honest products and their passion for creating taste experiences that are pure and natural.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a distillate?

A distillate is a pure, strong alcoholic beverage (often >35% alcohol) that comes directly from the still and gets its flavour from the fermentation of the raw materials from which it is made (fruit or grain).

What is a liqueur?

A liqueur is technically a "dressed up" spirit: sugar and fruits or herbs are added to a previously distilled alcoholic base, which then slowly macerates (infuses).

What is your production process?

Our production process is artisanal and small-scale. At our distillery in Bunschoten-Spakenburg, our passion for our product and our love for the fruit and natural ingredients we work with are central. We produce water and energy-consciously and find uses for our residual products.
